It's helpful to take measurements of the property where the gate or access equipment will go.  How wide is the driveway. opening, or the walkway?

It is also helpful to know, how far away a power source is.  Will you need to have electrical people come and run power, or telephone lines run, before you have the gate company come?

If you are looking to have major work done, plan in advance.  Waiting until a couple of weeks before snow is expected, puts you in a line with others.
